About Elliot Sharp
Elliott Sharp leads the projects SysOrk, Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics, and Terraplane. Recipient of the Berlin Prize for 2015 and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2014. He has composed for Ensemble Modern, Radio Sinfonie Frankfurt, Hilary Hahn, and Arditti Quartet.
Sharp has been featured at New Music Stockholm as well as Donaueschingen, Darmstadt, Tomorrow Shenzhen, and Au Printemps festivals.
His opera, Port Bou premiered in 2014 and About Us, a sci-fi opera for all-teenage performers, premiered in 2010 at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Sharp’s book “IrRational Music” will be published in the fall of 2018.
His many collaborators include pop singer Debbie Harry; Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan; blues legends Hubert Sumlin and Pops Staples; jazz greats Jack deJohnette and Sonny Sharrock; multimedia artist Christian Marclay; and Bachir Attar, leader of the Master Musicians Of Jajouka.
His work is the subject of the documentary “Doing The Don’t”. Sharp has been featured on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.
